According to recent statistics, more than 60,000 people around the world name a star after someone each and every month through one of the countless Buy A Star services out there on the internet. (A simple Google search for “buy a star” conducted for this article retrieved more than twenty different companies offering what we hope are different stars for sale.)
We admit, naming stars for a friend or family member is a popular gift. Obviously, if that many people are registering starnames, there must be something to it.
However…
If you’ve received one of these gift packs or if you’ve given one and had a look at what you get, you’ll know that you receive a fairly generic packet that includes a map to a tiny dot in the sky that may (or may not) be “your star.”
And, considering how many registering and naming companies are out there, we’re thinking that the biggest and brightest constellations have already been sold many years ago.
Is there another option?
We think so!
