Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, mail flights between the United States and India remain restricted. As of 15 June 2020, only limited express shipments are being exchanged between the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and India Post. Shipments via standard First Class International service and Priority Mail International are not currently permitted.

Please note that the restrictions are entirely at the direction of India Post and, as a result, USPS is not accepting any parcels showing destinations within India.

According to a service alert bulletin for India issued by the USPS:

India Post advises a lockdown due to COVID-19 has been extended until May 31. Limited domestic mail exchanges continue in order to provide essential services. However, with the availability of certain cargo and evacuation flights, outbound [from India] express mail and international tracked packet services have resumed. All offices of exchange and airmail units are functional; however India Post cannot guarantee service delivery.

The lockdown remains in effect as of 15 June, and neither USPS nor India Post has provided additional information on when the restriction will be lifted.

UPDATE: As of 18 June 2020, the embargo has affected the shipment of more than 3,200 parcels from the International Lunar Lands Authority (Lunar Registry) to clients in India. The volume increased markedly following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput on Sunday (June 14). The passing of Rajput, a top Bollywood actor and notable owner of significant properties on the Moon, created a buying frenzy, with more than 11,300 acres purchased in less than 48 hours, with the majority of the parcels located in the star’s preferred Mare Moscoviense region.

During the embargo, all clients with delivery addresses in India are being provided with a PDF copy via email within three to five business days. Shipments of printed documents are being staged for immediate dispatch as soon as the embargo is lifted.
